ETHICS, RELIGION AND HISPANICS
Jorge Piña, Member
11:00 AM
Some studies suggest that a growing number of Hispanics are leaving organized religion. Are Humanist-oriented movements such as Ethical Culture paying attention to these “un-churched”, godless Hispanics? Dr. Jorge Piña is wondering if this is the right momentum for the establishment of the first HISPANIC SOCIETY FOR ETHICAL CULTURE (HiSEC) in the United States within the movement founded by Felix Adler in 1876. And to create a vital connection with all of the 22 congregations within the American Ethical Union (AEU). The objective is to bring a permanent dialogue on diversity and to reach out to the vibrant Hispanic community across the country, increase memberships, train more leaders and open new branches and retreats in the Caribbean, Latin-America and Spain. And celebrate platforms and ceremonies in other languages, especially in the Spanish language. Being this a mayor trend that has had important and lasting results in other religions and congregations all around the world since 500 years ago, Dr. Piña believes the moment is NOW.
The Society Meeting House is at 4450 Fieldston Road, at the corner of Fieldston Road and Manhattan College Parkway in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
